Notes to Self:  Little Reminders for Happier Trips

I can't find our original Camping Checklist...the one we've used for many years and has my handwritten notes and additions (mostly based on things we discovered when it was too late).  How frustrating!  The original was done in the old computer, which recently went to computer heaven, so perhaps it's time to start an entirely new checklist.

Since the original list was compiled, we've probably replenished all our gear anyway. We had to buy a new tent this year, after the poles on our old favorite broke in a wind gust while camping at the Jeep Jamboree last year (Texas Spur).  It was a little hard to find a small-ish tent that was also high enough for KingB to stand - at least in the center.  But we found a pretty good one and set it up last weekend just to make sure we could do it quickly, and to seal the seams.

KingB and I have an on-going "discussion" about whether it's still necessary to bring the old camp lantern.  We have lots of newer, nicer, brighter lamps that run on batteries, but KB needs that old familiar propane lantern to make it a "real" camping trip.  This wouldn't be such a big deal, except that we must travel VERY light when we're in the jeep, and I'm always worried that stuffing our gear in the back will eventually break the lens in the old lantern.  We got the lantern from his parents, who probably had the thing when he was a little boy...wow, THAT'S old!
